PALS students learn from community outing

The students of Southeast School’s Primary and Life Skills (PALS) Program recently had the opportunity to go on a community outing to a sub shop and dental office.

During their trip to Mr. Submarine, the students were able to use their communication and social skills to place their orders. Additionally, they used their knowledge of money to pay for their food.

After Mr. Submarine the group walked over to the dentist office of Dr. Steven Morris, where they took a tour and reviewed vocabulary terms, were introduced to different dental tools and instruments, and were shown how to properly brush their teeth.

“Dr. Morris and his staff were very helpful and so patient with our students. It was a nice community outing for the students where they were engaged in their learning,” PALS teacher Melissa Baffoe said. “This is one of the benefits of our community outings. These real life experiences are what allows our students to grow in a way that they would be unable to do in the traditional classroom setting.”
