Board of Education Appoints Thomas Schergen to fill Board Vacancy

On November 29, 2010, James Flanagan, president of the Board of Education, submitted his letter of resignation.  During his tenure on the board, Mr. Flanagan served as president for 5 ½ years.  His leadership was instrumental in moving the district forward as it embraces the required changes and works through difficult economic times.  His commitment, service and contributions to the students, parents, staff and community are recognized and very much appreciated.

The Board Member vacancy was posted and three community members submitted a letter interest to serve on the Board.  Interviews took place at a Special Meeting of the Board of Education that was held on January 5, 2011.  After the interview process, Members of the Board took action to appoint Thomas Schergen to fill the Board vacancy.

Mr. Schergen told Board Members that ‘as an educator myself, I realize the importance and sacrifice required to serve on the Board of Education.’  Tom received his Bachelors degree in Elementary & Special Education from Illinois State University and earned his Masters degree in Educational Administration from St. Xavier University.  Tom began his career as a special education teacher at Bremen High School in Midlothian and is currently employed as the athletic director at Marist High School.

Please join the Members of the Board of Education in welcoming Tom to the District 124 Board of Education.
