Unfortunately,
even with teaching our expectations and offering pre-corrections, some students
will still misbehave. For those instances, the Northeast staff has designed the
Office Referral Form (an example is in this booklet). The form will help teachers be more consistent not only with
enforcing our Paws’ Laws, but also in taking corrective action when students
have disobeyed the Paws’ Laws.
A
third infraction within a week becomes an office referral, which will result in
a detention. However, at times it will
be necessary for the principal or her designee to use his/her discretion to
give an automatic detention. Every infraction earned equals one point less
toward the next celebration. An
automatic detention equates to 3 points less.
Your signature on the office referral form is expected so that we know
that you are informed about your child’s behavior, and he/she will be staying
after school to serve the detention. If
you have any questions regarding the detention we encourage you to follow this
procedure:
1.
Speak to your child about his/her behavior. (Please remember that your
child may or may not tell you the entire story)
2.
If you continue to have concerns after speaking with your child we ask
that you contact the staff member who issued the detention.
Please
note that it is school policy to issue a detention and the child must serve it
as assigned. During the hours of 8:20-3:00 you entrust us with your
child and we would appreciate your support as we teach all the students the
importance of behaving in the correct manner.
We can only be successful if you support the system we are using.
Once
an office referral is given the following procedure will be put into place:
·
The
first office referral, during a quarter, will result in a 30 minute detention.
·
The
second office referral, during a quarter, will result in a 45 minute detention.
·
The
third office referral, during a quarter, will result in a 45 minute detention
and a missed recess period.
·
More
than 3 office referrals in one quarter will result in an in-school suspension.
·
Out
of school suspension will be determined based on the school/district policy.
·
Students need to take responsibility for their
actions. Please note that if a
detention is assigned and a student does not serve it on the designated date
he/she will earn a second detention (unless the student is absent).
·
If a student does not return the signed detention, he/she will miss
recess until the signed form is returned to school.
Our
goal is to teach students positive behaviors, so that all children can work in
a school environment that is safe, fun, free from distraction, and allows all
students to reach their maximum learning potential.
