District 124 Financial Task Force
|
Financial Task
Force
These are indeed
challenging and controversial times. Across the country, everyone is adjusting
to doing more with less. Businesses continue to produce more and provide more
with less money and resources. Individuals are adjusting to lower incomes while
still providing the necessities for their family. School districts also are
finding ways to provide quality instruction and increase student achievement
with limited funding. As the economy moves toward stabilization and the State
of Illinois addressing ongoing financial woes, school districts must find ways
to move forward with their goals despite challenging economic times.
District 124 is
creating a Financial Task Force to carefully examine the money that comes into
the district (revenues) and the money that goes out of the district (expenses).
The task force will focus on the needs of our students and the district. Members
will brainstorm methods to continue a high quality of education for the children
while ensuring sound, long-term financial stability for the community.
The Board of Education
is asking those interested in participating on the task force to complete an
application which can be picked up at the district office, 9400 Sawyer Avenue,
or found on our new website at www.d124.org. Applications are due August 22 and
members of the Finance Committee will choose the balanced membership in
late-August.
The Financial Task
Force will include 38 people representing the many constituent groups of the
district. Meetings are planned every two weeks from September 13 through
December 13 on Tuesday nights. At the December 14 Board of Education meeting,
the task force will present its suggestions and ideas to the members of the
Board. In February or March, the Board of Education will make any decisions
necessary to balance the budget in the future while providing the quality
education our children need.
If you would like to
participate on the District 124 Financial Task Force, please complete an
application for participation by August 1. Together we can make a difference in
finding innovative and creative solutions to help our students of today become
tomorrow’s business, political, and community leaders.
