October/November 2012
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your support during the opening of school. It went very smoothly and the students adjusted well as they transitioned from vacation mode to school mode. The sidewalk Art Fair was a big success again this year. I wish we would get a little cooperation from the weather so the beautiful artwork would remain awhile longer. I would like to thank the PTA for organizing this event. It is a great way to start the year.
Drop off and pick up are still presenting some problems. I must insist that the procedures listed below be followed for everyone’s safety. If you drive your child to school in the morning and pick them up at dismissal, please be sure to pull into a designated area for the safety of all students. The pick-up drop off area along 91st Street is to the west of the concession stand. The designated drop off area along 92nd Street is adjacent to the school parking lot. Please note that this is a drop off area only. You may not leave your car unattended to walk your child to the door. If you feel the need to do so you may park on Millard, the south side of 92nd Street across from the school lot, or along the north and south side of 92nd Street west of Millard. Please do not block the designated drop off area.
The next two months are filled with lots of events. Be sure to mark those events on your calendars. You should have received your child’s school picture. If your child was not enrolled or was absent, picture retakes will be on October 20. Also on October 20, the PTA is sponsoring our first Family Movie Night. It will be held in the gym. Look for more information in a separate letter to be sent home. You may also have your child’s picture retaken if it falls under one of the descriptions listed in your child’s picture package. Our next PTA meetings are on October 4 and November 8 at 6:00. Please try to attend one of the meetings during the year. It is a great way to meet people, make new friends, share ideas, and support our school. WINGO is going to be held on November 4. This is always a fun family event. Be sure to leave the date open.
This month you will also receive a request letter for parent conferences. Although conferences are not until November, we need to schedule them in advance so you can check for your availability. Conferences this year are on November 21 and November 22. You will also be receiving assessment results for your children this month. All students in grades 4-8 will receive the ISAT results from last spring. In addition, all students in K-8 will receive the MAP and AIMSWEB results from the fall of this year. Please review the results of all assessment information for your child. If you have questions, please contact either your child’s teacher or the office.
We had a great response in supporting the fight to find a cure for breast cancer. Over 200 shirts were ordered! We will have our walk on October 14 at approximately 1:00. Please join us if you can.
The date and location for the next Board of Education meeting has been changed. The new date is Monday, October 17. It will be held at Northeast School located at 91st and California and will begin at 7:00. The Board meeting for November is on Wednesday November 16 at 7:00. It will be held at Central Junior High School.
On Halloween the PTA is sponsoring an assembly, “The Ned Show”, for our students. The assembly will be held in the morning and will begin at 9:00. They are also organizing classroom parties for the children. As has been our past practice, students do not dress in costumes on this day. A detailed letter will be sent home outlining the specifics of the day.
The Northwest Book Fair will be held on November 17 and 18. Students may shop on those days. A separate book fair letter will be sent home that will include prices and selections. It will also be open on Monday and Tuesday, November 21 and 22 during parent conferences.
If you ever have questions or concerns, please contact the school office. Once again, thank you for your continued support. Working together we do great things for our students and the community.
Sincerely,
John Stanton
Principal
