Advantages
1. Equalizes class sizes between schools.
2. Provides common plan time between teachers.
3. Increases diversity.
4. May promote a better sense of community.
5. Will eventually lead to a reduction in classes on same level which will equate to a savings on teacher’s salaries and benefits.
Disadvantages
1. Loss of neighborhood schools
2. Students would not be able to walk to school.
3. Bussing students/cost of bussing.
4. Does not address space needs
5. Staggered start times – could reduce parent’s ability to work hours/and impact on child care for siblings.
6. Bullying issues.
7. Further divides parent volunteerism and fund raising by splitting up schools.
8. Too many transitions.

1. Loss of ‘buddies’.
2. Would still need construction.
3. More bussing than with other options.
4. Split quadrant.
5. Car traffic.
6. Staggered start times.
7. Too many transitions.
8. Northeast students would be bussed more than students from other quadrants.

1. Free up space at each of the elementary schools.
2. Requires no bussing.
3. Provides for expanded extra-curricular activities for 6th graders.
4. Building needs a better flow and this could be achieved with construction.
5. Adds an extra year of diversity.
6. Gains the benefit of team teaching.
Disadvantages
1. Requires
an addition.
2. 6th
grade students loose the opportunity for ‘job responsibilities’ at the lower grades.
3. Maturity
level.

5. Keeping 6th grade students separate from other students could be achieved through scheduling, but would require juggling.
